Enhanced Deliberation in BDI-Modelled Agents

چکیده
Applications that operate in highly dynamic environments must deal with real-time changes of circumstances in order to be consistent and coherent. In this work, we propose an extended deliberation cycle for BDI-modelled agents that takes advantage of environmental events to coordinate the deliberation process. Our argument is that is it possible to optimise the deliberation performance by exploiting features of windows of opportunity. The proposed model let us define precisely the expected application behaviour that promotes the balance between reactive and proactive applications, leading to solutions with improved computational performance.

BDI and BOID Argumentation
In this discussion paper we are interested in the role of argumentation in the context of cognitive BDI and BOID agents, i.e., agents whose deliberation is based on beliefs, obligations, intentions and desires. We discuss argumentation issues for single agent deliberation, multiagent dialogues, and interaction between agents and their normative system. For each category we discuss examples and ...
متن کاملA Goal Deliberation Strategy for BDI Agent Systems
One aspect of rational behavior is that agents can pursue multiple goals in parallel. Current BDI theory and systems do not provide a theoretical or architectural framework for deciding how goals interact and how an agent can decide which goals to pursue. Instead, they assume for simplicity reasons that agents always pursue consistent goal sets. By omitting this important aspect of rationality,...

A key advantage of BDI-based agent programming is that agents can deliberate about which course of action to adopt to achieve a goal or respond to an event. However, while state-of-the-art BDI-based agent programming languages provide flexible support for expressing plans, they are typically limited to a single, hard-coded, deliberation strategy (perhaps with some parameterisation) for all task...

متن کاملPRACTIONIST: a New Framework for BDI Agents
In this paper, we present PRACTIONIST (PRACTIcal reasONIng sySTem), a new framework built on the Bratman’s theory of practical reasoning to support the development of BDI agents in Java (using JADE) with a Prolog belief base. We aims at reducing the gap between the expressive power of the BDI model and the difficulty of efficiently implementing its features. In PRACTIONIST we adopt a goal-orien...
